Cassie and Colette met up with our FIRST Guest on the podcast – Kayleigh from The Vow Socials, is a UK and Destination Wedding Content Creator, based in Manchester, who captures and edits behind the scene content of her couples in a way that reignites the emotions and memories of their Wedding day.

“Hi everyone. I’m Kayleigh from The Vow Socials. Hello, hello!”

So let’s just dive straight in! Content Creation is relatively new to the wedding industry. So tell us a bit about your story and how you got into it?

It’s a bit of a cliche story. I got married and just completely fell in love with the industry, I wasn’t quite sure of where I’d fit into the wedding industry. I was looking at dress shops and all different areas. I came across other content creators pages, and I was like, wow, this is such a good addition to the the wedding industry, and it was something that I felt like I could do.

Within the Fashion industry, I’ve been working alongside a media team for the past 10 years, behind photographers, videographers, taking behind the scenes. So I just transitioned it really into the wedding industry. A photography friend of mine asked their couples If I could come along to shoot content for their wedding and it went from there!

The first one was in Bordeaux, from there, I got recommended by bridesmaids or the guests, who were getting married that year. It just kind of felt amazing!

So tell us about how different maybe you are to a videographer, but then also about your day, how does it all move forward? What do you capture and when?

I am definitely very different from videography and photography. It’s like, we’re all there to capture the same stuff but the way we produce, it is completely different. Mine’s more like social media based. They’re very small edits, like contact files that you can share just on Instagram, tik, Tok, even through your WhatsApp. If you’re not like a social media person, it’s still great to have, and the content I capture is more like those raw, organic moments, like the in between moments. So say, like your photographer will be doing the group shots I’ll be getting the moments in between. So for example, being with a photographer who is getting a big group shot of all of her girls there, I got the movement and behind the scenes moments, candid!

So who ever wasn’t there at that time gets to watch it back, like a funny moment that happened in their day. Or it could be like just little intimate moments, like with the bride and groom, so that I can capture all of that.

The videographer will capture your full speeches, whereas I’ll be capturing the guests reactions to the speeches, a videographer will produce a gorgeous documentary style film, which I loved mine. I got all my family around and we had a nice evening and we relived the day through like a 30 minute film, and looked at our pictures, we’ll pop them in albums and we’ll keep them forever, whereas the content that I produce, it’s more for those the moments straight after your wedding.

Have you found photographers and videographers welcoming you into the industry, or have you been met with any issues?

The first thing I’d do on a wedding day, I talk to the videographer and the photographer, introduce myself, and before all the moments, before the ceremony, we’ll all have a discussion, and I’ll say, Where are you going to stand? And I’ll make sure that there’s enough space so I’m not in those shots, or they kind of shadow them because I don’t want to be in the background of their shot. It’s okay for them to be in my shot though!  It’s quite nice for the couple to have those little clips of them having their picture taken by the professional. Yeah, it’s just about talking and like coming together as a team and getting what the couple wants. Communicate!

So what do you do then, as part of your steps, when the Bride or Groom books you?

So from the initial inquiry, I’ll send them a document with everything that we do with questions about their wedding details. We have a zoom call, get to know each other. I always say, there’s no pressure to book at that point, because it’s important that you’re with someone you click with as I’ll be with you all day. So you’ve got to make sure that that relationship, is right.

About a month before the wedding we will arrange a client consultation call and create a client content plan and go through everything about their day. Like, what do their highlights look like? Do you know, some people don’t have a cake cutting, but they might dress reveal,  depending on, like, what package they’ve booked will say, right? So you’ve got three smaller edits, from which part of the day do you want them to be? And then we’ll discuss the music for the reels, because I think that really sets the tone as well. Like the reel, it’s got a big impact. You know, if you want something like Lana Del revi Yes, it more like slow and romantic, or he wants something upbeat, I’ll discuss with the couple.

Do you have a strict schedule or are you open to how you structure your day?

I definitely don’t have, like, a strict outline. Once I’ve got the vision, I kind of just go with the flow of the day. You know, I might just go off into the cocktail hour to capture the guests enjoying themselves, and then follow the photographer if they are going to do the couple portraits, instead of ME saying, oh, shall we go off and get some content? Now you’ve done your photos because, like, time precious, yeah, they don’t want to be dragged, like, from one place to another.

What’s your favorite moment to capture?

I do love a first look. I just think it’s the emotion, and the dad reveal. It’s just really special to capture. I think it’s such a big build up to that point of day. It’s just really nice, and it’s nice then to be able to deliver that to the couple.

Would you say that is your style? What can people expect?

I understand what you mean there, because some couples might want that more like transitions. Do you know a Tiktok dance? Oh yeah, the trends, which I think it’s really fun, but it’s not something that is my specialty. I’m more of a storyteller, like I love all the esthetics, and I can do all the transitions, but I feel like as well, the time on your wedding day is so precious. If you wanted to do tiktok dances and transitions then you’d have to put that into your plan, allocate the time for it.

How are you sending the content to your couples? What is it that you’re using?

So I use Google Drive. I know some content creators I see use, we transfer. There is so much content, so I will try to make it as easy as possible to go through, so have like, separate files. So it’d be like the morning and the ceremony cocktail hour, that’s what they’re having. And then the top file will be edited reels. And then you could just go through and kind of swipe across those clips. You know, the raw content is like little four second clips. Maybe that’s a bit longer. So, yeah, I think if you put them into little files, and it’s easy for you to just swipe through, and will you live your whole day from start to finish.
