Simple Skin Care Routine for Glowing & Flawless Brides

My Number 1 Question I hear from my Brides, What is the BEST Skincare routine for Brides

Hopefully you can use some or all of my tips & favourite products to ensure your skin is in perfect condition for your wedding.

Disclaimer here….. Everyone’s skin is different, and everyone’s skin will change over time and even throughout the year depending on where you are in the world, environmental factors can take its toll on your skin. What works in the hot summer months may not work in the cold winters and vice versa.

When to start wedding Skincare?

So you DON’T want to start with any new products too close to your wedding, avoid new or strong treatments from 4 or less weeks before your wedding day. If you start using exfoliators, retinoids or going for facials you may find that your skin reacts and causes breakouts. Starting these treatments and self care habits earlier will give your skin time to heal and reset before your big day.

How should a Bride take care of her skin?

Basic hygiene routine, eating wholefoods 80% of the time and reducing processed foods to one off occasions, changing pillow cases regularly, avoiding touching your face especially when you haven’t washed your hands for a while and ALWAYS washing off makeup at the end of the day before sleep.

What is the best skin care routine for a bride?

Simple is best, you don’t need a 10 step routine if you haven’t got time or the passion in cosmetics. A consistent Two or Three step routine is better than no routine.

So, you start your skincare routine in the evening so you can cleanse the day away.

  1. You want a cleanser that is suitable for your skin type, that removes makeup & everyday grime but won’t strip your skin of natural oils. If you suffer from fungal acne click here to view cleansers that won’t cause fungal acne breakouts.
  1. If wearing makeup you will want to double cleanse, use a makeup remover oil or balm cleanser and then use a second cleanser suitable to your skin. OR use the same cleanser twice.
  1. Once your skin is clean, use a liquid exfoliator here. This is what the “toning” step was back in the day. Liquid exfoliators help breakdown skin cells at different levels of the epidermis ( skin ) gentle exfoliators such as lactic acids will help shed away texture on the top layer of the skin without drying your skin out which is perfect for sensitive skin, where stronger acids such as glycolic acid has the ability to stimulate collagen reducing fine lines.

Other acid such as salicylic which is often found in cleansers ( use a cleanser suitable to your skin) helps to break down the material that clogs pores & blackheads, making it a good choice for oily skin types. Be mindful not to over exfoliate your skin though. If redness, soreness, irritation appears either use a more gentle cleanser or remove the additional exfoliation step.

You can either sleep with just the acid on your skin, or wait an hour and moisturise on top of that liquid exfoliator.

  1.  Moisturising with either creams, lotions, elixirs or serums, creates a barrier to avoid your skin losing water. Even oily skin can be dehydrated. Choose a moisturiser that suits your skin type. If you seem to get breakouts from a product, stop using it for a few days. I suffer from fungal acne, which are tiny spots on the surface of the skin not deep into the skin and there are MANY products on the market that feed & cause my breakouts. My go to products/ combos for hydration for me are Avene Thermal water to hydrate & reduce any irritation on my skin with Sebamed Clear Face Gel which is full of aloe vera & hyaluronic acid, and then for an extra moisturising step Curél Intensive moisture facial cream as my skin is more on the dry side. If im feeling extremely dry, I use The Ordinary Squalane oil before bed and massage my face to encourage lymphatic drainage.

So that’s it! Cleanse, exfoliate, moisturise.

When it comes to Skin PREP for underneath makeup, then you can add in eye cream & lip balm. Otherwise your moisturiser should be enough to hydrate your entire face (if you are looking for a quick and easy routine).

Morning Skin Care Routine

What about the morning I hear you ask……. Well, you don’t need to cleanse your skin again, just using water is enough. Then move to your moisturising step and then a SPF suncream that suits your skin. I love Eucerin Oil control SPF 50, it doesn’t feel greasy and it doesn’t dry out my skin or cause me breakouts.
